Samuel Nelson, from northeastern Alabama, began his counseling career by studying psychology at Birmingham-Southern College. Upon completing a small internship at Piper Place, and with his desire to help others through counseling firmly in place, he endeavored on a pilgrimage to Atlanta where he not only continued his education in the Clinical Counseling Psychology program of Brenau University but also began nurturing his skills in community mental health and private practice settings. Sam pulls on his philosophy background in session with an approach influenced by existential, person-centered, and CBT practices. He has experience working with a wide array of minority clients. He has experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, gender and sexuality affirmation, personality disorders, and substance abuse. When not in the office, he enjoys studying philosophy, spending time with friends and family, listening to music, and doing what he calls "Hozier Homework".
